The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in Montclair will offer free online one-week Intro to French classes to children currently enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade at Montclair Public Schools.
As a gesture to the Montclair community that has generously supported FIAF:Montclair throughout the pandemic and to provide engaging learning opportunities to students whose education was interrupted due to COVID-19, this program will provide children who have had no prior instruction in French with daily hour-long courses over the course of one week, Monday through Friday. Approximately 500 students will be able to take advantage of the program on Zoom and other platforms, participating in intimate 12-person classes. Registration will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Using FIAF’s dynamic curriculum and immersive techniques, kids will learn the basics of French through song, engaging activities, and educational games. One of our native-speaking teachers will instruct them simple phrases, introductions, and beginner vocabulary.
New classes will start each week from June 22 through August 21 and will be divided into two levels based on age, one for current kindergarteners (entering first grade in the fall) and first graders (entering second grade) and another for second graders (entering third grade) to fifth graders (entering sixth grade). Each level has two sections: 1:30 to 2:30pm and 3 to 4pm.
Proof of enrollment in the Montclair Public School District will be necessary upon registration. More information and the online sign up form are available at fiaf.org.
In addition, FIAF:Montclair launches a series of Virtual Free French Fridays, offering free 30-minute classes for adults and open houses for kids, running on four consecutive Fridays starting today, May 29, through June 19. Adult attendees will be all but transported to Paris as they learn how to shop at boutiques along the Champs Elysées, dine in one of of the Marais’s trendy restaurants, or flirt in a bar in Montmartre. Kids will travel around the world in French, learning about various Francophone countries through songs, games, and other interactive activities. Times and schedules vary.
