Memorial Service, Procession Through Glen Ridge Thursday for Officer Charles Roberts

The Borough of Glen Ridge announced details of the memorial service for Officer Charles Roberts:

On Thursday, May 14, 2020 we will be holding a memorial service for Officer Charles Roberts. At 11:45 a.m. a private escort will be leaving the funeral home in Bloomfield, traveling west on Bay Avenue to Ridgewood Avenue and stopping at the Glen Ridge Municipal Complex. At noon a service will take place for the family in front of the Municipal Building facing Bloomfield Avenue. The Municipal Complex and surrounding lawn will be closed to the public.

We know that it’s important to all residents to honor Rob. He was an advocate of social distancing and the wearing of facemasks. We encourage residents to view the ceremony virtually and honor Officer Roberts during the final sendoff throughout the Borough.

The service will be live streamed on the Borough Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Borough-of-Glen-Ridge-New-Jersey-648320125192175/

If it is determined that too many people are physically in the area of the memorial service, we may ask you to leave for the safety of the community.

Upon conclusion of the service, approximately 12:50 p.m., a funeral escort procession will travel throughout Glen Ridge on its way to bring Officer Roberts to his final rest. The procession, consisting of family and members of the public safety community, will follow the route found on the attached map.

At 12:50 p.m. we ask that each resident stand outside their home with their hand over their heart as the procession passes. Alice Roberts has asked for the Glen Ridge community to show their support by wearing Mets colored attire.

Officer Roberts and his family are such an integral part of Glen Ridge. We truly appreciate your cooperation and prayers.
