Carhop dining is coming back and making its way to Montclair, courtesy of Demetri Malki’s De Novo European Pub.
Carhop service has been making a comeback because of restrictions on indoor dining due to COVID-19.
And while we don’t expect to see Malki in roller skates, you can expect to park and have food delivered to your vehicle.
“I truly miss our community, guests and friends! And if this is the closest I can get to them I will take it,” Malki said.
Malki put the idea out to the community and the response was overwhelming and humbling.
“I’m trying to do the best I can do in order to survive, yet still respect the social distancing guidelines that are still in place,” Malki said, adding that, if he receives all the equipment needed, he also hopes to have a dine in/drive in movie night!
The first carhop dining night will be Thursday, June 4 from 4 – 9 p.m.
Spots are limited (parking in every other spot for distancing; tables set up in empty spaces between vehicles), so Malki encourages you to make reservations.
You can call to place your order ahead of time or when you arrive (via phone). Your order will be delivered to your vehicle. Malki adds that they have a limited number of chairs, but encourages diners to feel free to bring their own. And yes, bathrooms will be open.
