Alright Montclair. We told you you could do better.
As on Monday morning, 6,802 Montclair voters have cast ballots in the Montclair Municipal Election, by mail, according to Christopher J. Durkin, Essex County Clerk.
We are way ahead of 2016, when only 2,043 voters cast ballots, but all but one councilor that year ran unopposed. In 2012, 29% of registered voters cast ballots. In 2008, 7,149 Montclair residents voted – 28.65% of registered voters. In 2004, turnout was the highest at 30.1%.
In 2019, Montclair had 32,588 registered voters.
On March 19, 2020, Governor Phil Murphy signed an executive order for all elections on May 12th to be held solely via vote-by-mail ballots. Ballots were mailed to residents in April.
