Montclair Fire Department received a call at 10:50 a.m. Friday reporting a fire at a residence on Central Ave. While en-route, dispatch reported they were receiving multiple calls confirming a heavy smoke condition at that location.
Montclair Fire units arrived to find heavy fire issuing from the second floor from two front and a side window. All occupants self-evacuated prior to FD arrival. Montclair units entered and extinguished the fire. There was heavy fire and smoke damage to the 2nd floor and water damage to the 1st floor.
A Unit from Bloomfield helped to bring the fire under control while units from West Orange, Clifton and Caldwell covered the township for the duration of the incident.
There were no reported Fire Department or civilian injuries. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist with relocation. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Deputy Chief Robert Duncan said.
