If you haven’t tried Detroit-style square pies at Rock City Pizza in Montclair (438 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair ), get ready for a feel-good pizza experience in more ways than one. Rock City is the creation of Montclair Hospitality Group, owners of Ani Ramen House.
After temporarily closing all Ani Ramen locations due to COVID-19, Ani Ramen switched gears. In partnership with Mark Bustos, founder of #BeAwesomeToSomebody, Ani Ramen owner Luck Sarabhayavanija launched #BeAwesomeFeedSomebody as a non-for-profit restaurant company to support first responders. In Montclair, Rock City Pizza Co., located across the avenue from Ani Ramen, opened as a Detroit-style pizzeria.
The pies at Montclair’s Rock City Pizza are Sicilian meets deep dish, with crispy crusts (with or without those amazing pepperoni cups). Here’s the feel good part: 100% of the proceeds go directly to feeding first responders and Ani Ramen staff.
The assortment of Detroit-style pizzas include the Classic Detroit Square Pie (Rock City Brick Cheese, red sauce, fresh chopped herbs), the Rock City Square Pie (Brick Cheese, red sauce, cupping pepperoni), or the White Square Pie (Brick Cheese, white sauce, garlic herb butter), for $11 to $13. Order online at BeAwesomeFeedSomebody.Org, where you can also donate a pie (a $6 donation buys a free pizza pie for someone in need.).
The first Rock City Pizza location opened in Jersey City in April; since then, more than 2,000 pizzas have been donated to first responders, hospitals, and others in need!
