Celebrating birthdays during quarantine is challenging, but this mom is helping make it special for kids.
Michelle Shuey, Glen Ridge resident and the Founder of The Effortless Affair, a full-service party planning business was [like many local business owners] immediately impacted by the coronavirus pandemic as all planned and upcoming celebrations came to a sudden halt. Shuey made the decision to pivot and change her business model to offer delivery party boxes so local parents can still celebrate their children’s milestones and provide them with a special experience despite the circumstances of being social distant and at home. After seeing so many requests about what parents could do for their child’s party while under quarantine on hyperlocal groups on Facebook, Shuey was committed to providing them with a safe and simple solution.
Each party box contains everything you need to host and celebrate your child’s special day from a custom 6” cake, boutique style paper plate and napkins, birthday candles, birthday crown, birthday balloon banner, 5 tissue paper garlands, confetti and a craft. Available in several themes – unicorn, dinosaur, race car, rainbow and pastel – there’s also the option to create a custom box. Increasingly popular lawn signs and balloon bunches are also available. Party boxes can be ordered online through Shuey’s site and delivered right to your door.
Shuey’s boxes feature local businesses. Each box contains a cake from a local, female-owned bakery in West Orange (Willow and Olivia) and a choice of child craft from several other local businesses: ceramic paint set from Doin Dishes in Montclair, cookie or pizza kits from Splurge Bakery or playdough sensory kits from Montclair Mom. There is also a helium balloon add-on available from a local mompreneur Instaballoons.
