Montclair’s ‘Pop Goes the Plaza!’ Goes on Pause this Weekend

“Pop Goes the Plaza!” is taking a pause.

The Montclair Center Business Improvement District (BID) has asked the Township not to close Church and South Park streets this weekend in order to assess the successes of last weekend’s Pop Goes the Plaza events and make whatever changes necessary to ensure the most positive visitor experience moving forward.

“After reviewing all comments and surveys of businesses, vendors, the design team, my staff, and the public, we’ve decided to pause the program for this weekend to retool a number of things and commence the following weekend,” said BID Executive Director Jason Gleason. “We plan to release a full schedule of summer activities to the public next week.”

“The Township respects the BID’s request and decision,” said Mayor Sean Spiller. “We’ve informed our personnel of the situation and we remain ready to move forward again assisting the BID when Pop Goes the Plaza activities resume – likely next weekend.”

The Montclair Center BID also sent out an email earlier this week stating that it wanted to take into account all the positive feedback and concerns raised from our pilot program.

“We will retool Pop Goes the Plaza to better serve everyone’s needs, businesses and residents alike, on Church and South Park Streets, especially addressing safety concerns including the use of masks,” the email states.

  1. Had a nice time there last weekend, but we noticed a disturbing number of people who weren’t wearing masks.
