Baristanet Profile: Angie McCaffrey

Name: Angie McCaffrey

Where do you live? Montclair

When did you move there? We moved here in 2013 when my son was almost a year old.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in a tiny farm town in Iowa. I flew the coop right after graduation and went straight to NYC where I lived for almost 20 years.

How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I’m very lucky that I make a living from my everyday passion which is photography with Entwined Studio, which I own with my husband, Matt. I shoot weddings, celebrations and families as well as content for businesses and social media accounts. I document love and I have an exceptionally happy job. It’s quiet right now because of Covid, but I know the celebrations will be back and they will be epic when this is all over.

Coffee, tea or … ? COFFEE. Just don’t make me choose between Java Love, Local or Paper Planes because I can’t. I love them ALL. It would be like choosing a favorite child.

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? Sleeping in, breakfast from Luisa (the El Guapo egg sandwich is a gift from heaven), a coffee and a walk with my boys around the farmers market, an afternoon drink sitting outside at Amanti Vino, and if it’s really perfect — a massage with Jess at Held.

What’s your favorite local restaurant? Mesob (tibs wat!) and Ani Ramen (shrimp buns and spicy miso Ramen)

What’s on your nightstand? My kindle, Lavender Water spray from DollyMoo  a beautiful piece of rose quartz from Culture Couture that a dear friend gifted me for my birthday, and a lumpy, misshapen but absolutely perfect ring dish that my son made for me in first grade.

What are you listening to? I am a music nerd so it pains me a bit to admit this, but, I’ve been listening to the new Taylor Swift album folklore, and I love it. She wrote and recorded the whole thing during this miserable Covid isolation, and it is really hitting all the marks for me right now. I also listen to a bunch of podcasts and The New York Times The Daily podcast has been a huge boost to my sanity during Covid.

What are your current indulgences? Books. I read a lot, and I have been allowing myself to buy new releases and not making myself wait for paperback or a library copy. Another indulgence is Ben and Jerry’s Netflix and Chill’d which I honestly wish I had never tasted because it’s so good.

What talent you would most like to have? I wish I could sing or play the piano. Or have the ability to write and record an entire album during Covid. In summation, I would like my talent to be me just being Taylor Swift. (Kidding, mostly.)

What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair? The Montclair Friday Group, which was created and is run by the most incredible woman, Alma Schneider. It is a group for parents of children with disabilities, and it is open to everyone in the area, not just Montclair. It is an incredible resource for sharing information and resources and is inclusive of everything across the board- learning disabilities, medical disabilities, early intervention, food allergies, etc. There is an active online component as well as a weekly zoom meeting and all are welcome. Reach out to Alma if you’d like to join.

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? She was a good mom and friend. She was warm and funny, even if she did swear too much.  Oh, and she took some really beautiful photos…
