Belleville, New Jersey – Wawa, Inc. opened its new store this morning, located at 11 South Franklin Avenue, Belleville. Wawa’s newest store is the third in Essex County. The store will employ approximately 40 associates who will have an opportunity to earn stock through the company’s ESOP (Employee-Stock-Ownership-Plan) after completing one year of service.
“At Wawa, our core purpose is to go beyond filling orders to Fulfilling Lives and we’re excited to join the Vienna community to provide resources, job opportunities and community support,” said Chris Gheysens, President & CEO, Wawa. “We are committed to providing comfort and a sense of normalcy in the safest way possible and will continue to listen to the needs of our customers during this challenging time.”
Wawa celebrated through a virtual video experience. Belleville Mayor Michael Melham welcomed Wawa to the neighborhood by personally congratulating the team and building the first ceremonial hoagie! Wawa expressed gratitude to Healthcare Heroes at neighboring hospital, Clara Maass Medical Center with “Hoagies for Heroes” donating lunch and $1,000 to their organization.
Wawa also acknowledged local community first responders from Belleville Fire Department and Belleville Police Department with donated “Hoagies for Heroes” and $1,000 contributions to each department’s charity of choice.
There was also the first-ever social distancing ribbon cutting with store associates standing 6 feet apart in front of the store.
