Montclair, N.J. – This year Start Out Fresh Intervention Advocates (S.O.F.I.A.) challenges you to celebrate 10 years of uplifting the community and saying that yes — “With Awareness There is Hope.” The 10th Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence returns to Montclair’s own Canterbury Park — AND wherever participants walk. To celebrate this 10th year of the Walk, S.O.F.I.A. suggests walking TEN minutes, TEN neighborhood blocks, TEN laps around a track, or even TEN miles! Pre-Registration is strongly encouraged, but late-comers can stop by Canterbury Park to register for the Walk between 9-10 AM on September 12th, 2020. Masks, social distancing, and other safety protocols will be required to participate at Canterbury Park. The Walk begins at 10 AM, and will be live-streamed on S.O.F.I.A. social media channels, with participants live-streaming and sharing photos from wherever they choose to walk.
S.O.F.I.A. is honored to have Annette Johnson, CPC, as Grand Marshal for the event. Annette Johnson is a Certified Professional Leadership Coach for Women, and a popular keynote speaker. She is also the author of FLY: Forgive & Love Yourself.
Goals for this Event:
- To raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding intimate partner and domestic violence
- To ensure S.O.F.I.A. has the resources to address on-going COVID19 related emergency needs of domestic violence victims, including the #WeCare Covid19 needs program.
- To secure funds for operational maintenance of the S.O.F.I.A. Success Center
S.O.F.I.A. couldn’t achieve these goals without the tremendously generous support of our community sponsors. Interested individuals, organizations, and businesses can visit https://bit.ly/SOFIAsponsor2020 for more information.
“This year has been a challenge, and S.O.F.I.A.’s volunteers and supporters have risen to each occasion to ensure our clients and the community is uplifted and cared for,” says Cynthia Walker, executive director and founder of S.O.F.I.A.. “I am humbled to celebrate the 10th year we’ve held our annual walk. We continue to come together to show public support for those directly impacted by domestic violence. Minimizing the stigma and raising awareness about warning signs and resources are deeply meaningful for promoting prevention and healing.”
