Montclair Crime: Robberies, Burglaries, Theft from Motor Vehicle

The week in Montclair crime from Sergeant Terence Turner, Montclair Police Department:

Theft from Motor Vehicle
December 2, 2020 (Valley Road): The complaint reported that a bag containing numerous articles of clothing was stolen from her vehicle between November 29th and the time of the report. She was unsure if the vehicle was locked or not.
December 5, 2020 (South Park Street): The complainant reported that her unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. The suspect removed between $20.00 and $100.00 in cash from the glove compartment.

Burglary/Attempted Burglary
December 2, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): The residents reported that their apartment was burglarized. Entry appears to have been gained through a first-floor window. The victims reported that the suspect(s) took various pieces of handmade jewelry and approximately $1500.00 in cash.
December 2, 2020 (Lexington Avenue): The complainant reported that an unknown person(s) attempted to enter her residence. The residence was completely vacant at the time of the incident. The suspects attempted to make entry by forcing the front two doors open, however a padlock prevented the suspect(s) from gaining entry. Both doors and the surrounding molding sustained damage.
December 3, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): The victim reported that his storage unit was entered between 9:00AM and 2:00PM. The garage door leading to the shed where the storage unit was located was accidently left open. The suspects removed a 1989 Nishiki Bushwacker mountain bike with an estimated value of $200.00. The bike was described as green and black in color with Nishiki written in white letters on the frame.

Motor Vehicle Theft
December 5, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he was making food deliveries and while making a delivery, he left his car (2010 Toyota Camry) running while unattended.
Upon returning to his vehicle he observed two black males entering the vehicle and fleeing west on Bloomfield Avenue before making an illegal right turn onto Glenridge Avenue and continuing down the wrong way of the one-way portion towards Forest Street. The vehicle was later recovered, parked and unoccupied, in Newark, NJ.

December 1, 2020 (Mission Street): The victim reported that while walking on Mission Street he was assaulted by four to five unknown individuals. The suspects reportedly pushed him to the ground and went through his pockets, taking a set of car keys. The suspects then located and stole the vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Caravan. The victim sustained injuries to his face but refused medical attention. The vehicle was recovered the next day unoccupied on Woodland Avenue in Montclair. The victim was unable to provide a description of the suspects because he was attacked from behind.
December 7, 2020 (Cloverhill Place): The victim reported that she was walking to work north on Cloverhill Place. Upon reaching the intersection of Cloverhill Place and Grove Terrace, she was approached by two males. One male was armed with a taser gun and demanded her wallet. The victim turned over $20.00 in cash and the suspects fled south on Cloverhill Place.

December 5, 2020 (Madison Avenue): Patrol responded to a 911 call of a male breaking into a vehicle which was parked in the resident’s driveway. A description of the suspect was broadcast to responding units. Officers located and arrested a 32-year-old Montclair man on Orange Road, who was found to have the stolen proceeds on him. He was charged with Burglary and Theft and released.
