Name: Rená Ambrose
Where do you live? I live with my family and our cheeky Chihuahua in Montclair, 4th Ward.
When did you move there? We moved here 6 years ago.
Where did you grow up? I’m originally from the old Italian enclave in North Newark. I spent most of my life living and working in Newark.
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I’m extremely fortunate in that one of my great passions in life is how I make a living. I’m a licensed massage therapist and certified lymphedema therapist. I recently opened my own office in Upper Montclair: Mend Lymphatic Massage & Wellness Services.
Coffee, tea or … ? If I have my ultimate choice, it’s a screaming hot matcha latte. Paper Plane Coffee Co. makes a really nice one.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? A hike in the forest on a crisp Autumn day with my family. Bonus points if the smell of a campfire is in the air.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? I once had grilled octopus at Mishmish that brought a tear to my eye.
What’s on your nightstand? A box of Abe’s blueberry muffins and a dodgy looking bottle of water. That’s life with a 3-year-old.
What are you listening to? Lately, I’ve been listening to more Tibetan Buddhist chanting paired with a steady diet of Ramones. It somehow balance out!
What are your current indulgences? Ridiculously long, hot epsom salt baths. I’m pretty much pickled at this point.
What talent you would most like to have? Xray vision would be fairly neat. Turning water into wine might get me further, though.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair? I’m not sure if it’s any kind of secret, but I’ve been gobsmacked by the kindness and generosity of spirit in this town.
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? We are here to celebrate the quirky, yet principled life Rena’ lived…so crank up the music and let’s dance!
