Weekend Family Fun: Spring Fun, Frogs and More

Another weekend is here! Ready for some fun? We’ve rounded up a handful of ideas perfect for some family time. Check ’em out!

Skyline Church (498 Watchung Avenue, Bloomfield) will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Skyline loves to pour into the community. This year, the Easter Egg Hunt is free for all and has games, face painting, bunny pictures, and so much fun. The hunt has been designed for safety so please read all the safety protocols before reserving your tickets. The event is free, but a ticket must be reserved for every person in your party for your specific time slot.

This is the final weekend for the March Frelinghuysen Arboretum (353 East Hanover Avenue, Morris Twp) Family Photo Scavenger Hunt. Participate any time between 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM on Saturday or Sunday. Bring your camera or phone for this month’s hunt, “Popping Up All Over.” Cost is $10 per family or group of 6 or fewer. Preregistration is required.

On Saturday at 10:00 AM, The Newark Museum of Art will host Virtual Creative Play: Making Music and a Harmonica! Explore sound through the Museum’s vast collection of musical instruments and works. Whether we call it music, sounds from nature, or sounds that are indescribable, sound influences us in many ways. A list of materials needed to make the harmonica can be found on the website, as well as a link to register.


Great Swamp Environmental Education Center (247 Southern Blvd, Chatham Twp) will host Frog Jamboree on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The spring peepers and wood frogs are calling from the vernal pools. Learn about these two frogs while listening to their chorus. This all-ages event will be held rain or shine. Cost is $5 per person age 3 and up and free for children under age 3. Preregistration is required.

Gigi’s Princess Palace (328 Broad Street, Bloomfield) will offer Gigi’s Princess Easter Extravaganza Hosted by Rapunzel and the Easter Bunny on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Enjoy Easter holiday crafts, a meet and greet with Rapunzel and the Easter Bunny, glittery makeup, princess dress up, and Easter goodie boxes. Cost is $49.95 and advance registration is required.

The Eclectic Chic Boutique will host an Easter Cooking Decorating Virtual Workshop on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Celebrate Easter by decorating fun and colorful cookies! Learn how to decorate cookies like a professional. Cost is $75 per family and a DIY kit is provided. Register in advance to reserve your materials.

On Sunday, Laurie Berkner will host Springtime Party Concerts at 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM. This 80+ minute live interactive, solo, virtual performance will can be enjoyed by the whole family. Sing, dance, play games through your device with Laurie as she performs favorite songs, interacts with you through the screen, and brings in a few surprises – from her house to yours. Your ticket gives you access to both shows, so choose one or both. Tickets are $20.

Ready for a spring science project? Try out this Sprout House. This activity is good for kids preschool aged and up, though younger kids might need a hand. Gather up some sponges, toothpicks, seeds, and a few other things you should have readily available. You’ll use the sponges to build a house, add the seeds, water them, and wait for the seeds to grow!
