Baristanet Profile: Amya Zhanelle

NameAmya Zhanelle

Where do you live? Montclair, NJ

When did you move there? Born and raised!

Where did you grow up? Montclair

How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?

I am the President & CEO of AZ Is Media, a social media consulting firm designed to elevate the digital presence of individuals and startups. Social media, while overwhelming at times, can be a great source to connect with people all over the world. I bridge the gap to understanding how to use social media from a personal perspective to a professional perspective. Recently for my personal brand I launched my podcast, She Did That Again… which discusses how I have navigated being a young entrepreneur while having dealt with the challenges of mental health.

Coffee, tea or … ?

I absolutely love tea, I have so many different flavors in my house, and they are organized by daytime and nighttime teas. On occasion I will treat myself to a caramel iced coffee with almond milk and EXTRA caramel.

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day?

If it is cold, preferably indoors, binging all the Marvel movies or Law & Order SVU, painting my nails (the one thing I have fully mastered during the pandemic), and doing a face mask. If it is a warm day, I’d like to be outside, maybe have a brunch or nice picnic with friends and go mini golfing.

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

There is a reason the food decisions are not left up to me in my family because I can never decide! If I had to break it all down by the meal here’s what I would choose:

Breakfast I would opt for Toast (love their candied bacon) or Coffee & Cornbread. Lunch I would have a sandwich from Jackie’s Grillette. Dinner, the possibilities are endless, but if I were to narrow it down it would be a pizza from DaVinci’s, a southern meal from Sweet T’s, or a shrimp quesadilla from Tinga’s.

What’s on your nightstand? My nightstand is actually my desk, but what I keep close to the edge is my phone, laptop, and a fan.

What are you listening to? I listen to music based on my mood, the genre mix involves, R&B, Pop, Hip Hop & Latin. Most recently I listened to Justin Bieber’s Justice album which had a lot of great tracks and featured some of my favorite Black artists.

What are your current indulgences? For food I would have to say cookies and molten lava cake. For a break from my busy life, I’ll watch Jersey Shore or my all-time favorite movie, Clueless.

What talent you would most like to have? Ice skating and snowboarding.

What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair? Skyline views, sunrises/sunsets. There are so many spots to see everything down to NYC, one of my favorites is the 9/11 Memorial in Eagle Rock Park.

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral?

Yikes. Well I hope they talk about how funny and caring I was as a person. Also, that no matter the situation I always kept a positive outlook, and I accomplished great work in my business and as an advocate for mental health.
