When passing Dem Two Hands on the corner of North Fullerton and Claremont, one can’t help but notice the colorful, artistic window displays featuring flowing garments, sometimes accentuated with flowers and lights. Occasionally, locals witness photo shoots occurring against the wall outside as models pose in the store’s clothing and accessories. Customers who enter the store know the joy of browsing the myriad purses, jewelry, and outfits, sometimes finding a unique gift of the hard-to-buy-for friend or the family member who “has everything.” And during this past year, Dem Two Hands ensured that those who wanted to stay both safe and fashionable had many masks to choose from that allowed everyone to exhibit personality with flair.
However, these small joys of a brick and mortar Dem Two Hands will be ending as May draws to a close. Marion Lake, the designer and owner of Dem Two Hands, has announced that after serving the community for over 30 years, the corner fashion stop will be closing its doors — but continuing to maintain its online presence. The announcement was met with sadness as well as deep appreciation, as fans of the store from near and far shared their memories and favorite purchases over the years. Several comments came from former area residents who now live as far as Kansas and Colorado but still shop the store online.
True to form, Dem Two Hands has a celebration planned for its upcoming changes that Montclair could expect from a community partner. As posted on their Facebook page: “In celebration & gratitude for having served our community for 30 years, we want to decorate our windows with love notes from all of you! … Thank you all so much for a wonderful 30 years!”
Those who cannot come in person to leave a love & appreciation note are encouraged to send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org that will be written out for display.
Dem Two Hands is located at 61 N. Fullerton Street, on the corner of Claremont Avenue.
