Bloomfield, NJ – With all the renovations going on at Brookdale ShopRite, we’ve been anticipating a new jewel of a store. But we didn’t imagine finding a store within a store! Opening this weekend, Fresh to Table offers shoppers a huge variety of inspired meals, on-trend ingredients with easy recipes, and prepared foods.

Fresh to Table is an innovative one-stop-shop meal experience which makes healthy eating, cooking, and meal planning more convenient than ever.
“The Brookdale ShopRite has been an important part of the community for generations, and we can’t wait to introduce the Fresh to Table concept to our customers as part of our newly renovated store,” said Neil Greenstein, a third-generation grocer and owner of the Brookdale ShopRite.
Fresh to Table was conceived to enhance the shopping experience and make it more compatible with our busy lifestyles, says Michael Collucio, Business Efficiency Manager. The idea is to provide the ultimate convenience to shoppers by providing an extensive choice of chef inspired grab and go food options, whether you hate to cook, love to cook, or need to eat ASAP.
Meal planning has never been easier – whether for yourself or a crowd, whether flexitarian, vegan, or vegetarian – they’ve got it covered. An exciting addition to the space is a restaurant-sized organic super-foods fresh juice and bowl bar, opening in the coming week. ShopRite’s technology-forward shopping offers incredible efficiency, almost contactless purchasing, and even a Jetson-age robotic salad station conceived to mitigate effects of the pandemic.
Brookdale ShopRite’s elegant new entrance hall brings you to the super-sized meals-to-go area before even entering the grocery halls. This set up is the epitome of grab and go, or as the first counter of fresh fruit and veggies says: Diced So You Can Dash. The area is conceptually organized in Prep & Eat (ready to cook and serve items) Heat & Eat, and Grab & Eat snacks, sides, and meals.
One Stop Dinner Shop
Numerous wide screens and clear signage help you navigate the selection of prepped and prepared foods. Don’t like to cook, or don’t have time tonight? The “One Stop Dinner Shop” display case is front and center. There are all the components required to put more than 5 complete meals on the table with ease. Think chicken tostada with fried leeks, 3 types of lasagna, plant packed veggie bowl, meatballs, caesar salad kit. (No need to walk through the entire store anymore!) There are both fully cooked and just prepped and portioned options. Menus will change often and are conceived by in-house chefs with time and convenience in mind. In case you need help deciding, a screen above displays beautiful food photos of the week’s menu, a QR code with the recipe, and prices for four servings.
Want to cook? Check out the high end Butcher Van brand marinated poultry and meat section, and the large selection of marinated fish fillets and salmon burgers. Mango salmon, coconut cod, stuffed sole, cajun bay scallops, lemon dill salmon anyone?
Got company? The prepared family size dishes range from meatball lasagne to chicken Francaise to sausage and peppers in servings of four to six. You’ll also find empanada appetizers, garlic bread, fantastic prepared soups and salads.
Something For Everyone
What about fulfilling all the dietary dreams of your individual family members? Well, in my home we have flexitarian, pescatarian, and vegan – and of course we are counting calories. Fresh to Table provided a quick fix for my healthy and varied food quest.
Here’s what I found for lunch: The prepared salad area displayed about 30 different packaged salads. I grabbed the Eat Smart Superfood Selections Raspberry Acai bowl which filled my salad bowl with just 200 calories of tasty nutritional crunch. With a fork packed in this is the perfect on-the-go quickie lunch, and may become my go-to meal carry on when I fly again. For another day, there’s a vegan selection of cheese, soups, “meats” and Mann’s Nourish Bowls. (The hot Southwest Chipotle veggie bowl calls to me.) For my omnivore millennial, a prepared Superfood avocado salad with a side of penne vodka satisfied. Fresh sandwiches, wraps, and pastries are also an option, located in the case of essential grocery staples like milk, bread, and eggs.
I love to cook, but like to take a break on Friday nights. The heat and eat section offered a bounty of gourmet delicacies in generous single portions. We selected single servings of spinach and mushroom lasagna, eggplant rollatini, garlic sautéed broccoli rabe. We settled on the lasagna and broccoli rabe, quickly plated and reheated for two, which was decidedly restaurant quality. Seasoned perfectly, fresh pasta is indulgently layered in a rich spinach and mushroom bechamel, the roasted garlic broccoli rabe a nice counterpoint in its simplicity. We topped off the meal with a fresh light cannoli – or two. For the meat eater, I went over to the prepped to cook section and selected Hungarian mushroom soup, chicken Kiev, and broccoli – cauliflower florets. In the ready-to-eat now cooler, Did I mention how much fun it is to shop like this?
Meal planning integrated technology such as on-line ordering, scanning in-store QR codes to access ShopRite’s The Recipe Shop, and the Order Express app makes shopping uber-efficient. And with Door-Dash available, you can stay at home and eat well with an affordable gourmet meal you don’t have to cook.
