Name: Alex Saneski
Where do you live? Montclair
When did you move there? 2016
Where did you grow up? Passaic, NJ
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I own and operate APEM Creamery in Bloomfield. I go in at 6:45 AM everyday, blast some music, and go about my day. I’ve gone through so many evolutions with gelato making, but right now it’s very rewarding. People around here are cool, and we reach all types.
Coffee, tea or … ? Espresso
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? Line out the door, loud music, smiling customers, and a sore arm from scooping.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? Troops Subs in Clifton. I go there often because they’re consistent, fast, and the owner always has stories for me.
What’s on your nightstand? The Double Axe by Robinson Jeffers to start and end the day.
What are you listening to? Thee Oh Sees
What are your current indulgences? Cruising the backroads of western Jersey.
What talent you would most like to have? Rally car racing or sculpting. I went to high school in Wayne and so had to drive around to see friends. And taking these backroads all around was so much fun. I’m the guy who would get excited for a snowstorm so I could take out my car. And sculpting because I like the feeling of being possessed to work for revelation.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about your area? Best kept secret: the burgers at Tierney’s Tavern as far as I know.
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? “What the hell am I gonna do now?!? There’s no gelato. Bring him back!”
