Baristanet Profile: Joseph Burgos

Name: Joseph Burgos

Where do you live? Montclair, NJ

When did you move there? 10+ years ago

Where did you grow up? Long Island, NY (Wyandanch)

How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?

My passion begins with my wife who exhibits excellence daily and my kids who emulate her energy. One of those kids is actually a full adult woman (she’s still my little girl–if only in my head) who touts a business and 2 degrees. (She graduated summa cum laude w/her Masters btw–sharing in case someone really wanted me to have a proud daddy moment.) The other kid is a kid-man currently finishing kindergarten, very intelligent and inquisitive and…he will give you the 3rd degree!

Beyond my family, my business is my passion which incudes “all things real estate.”  I’ve been in the residential and commercial real estate industry for 23+ years and am the Broker and Owner of Burgos Realty Company located in Montclair.

Oh and football…football and more football! I used to play for Temple U and the CFL!

Coffee, tea or…? Some say coffee, but I say…el café con leche y azucar!

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? Lots of quiet, but who gets that with a business and a 6 year old? So…a little unplugged time with my wife and kids…preferably on the beach.

What’s your favorite local restaurant? There are so many to choose in Montclair but some of my new favorites include some of the black owned restaurants like Sweet T’s,  Coffee and Cornbread, and Montclair Diner to name a few.

What’s on your nightstand? A photo of my family, my football necklace, and a Joel Osteen book.

What are you listening to? Earth, Wind and Fire, my son’s current favorite song Levitating by Dua Lipa (he’s 6, don’t ask), and inspirational podcasts.

What are your current indulgences? Sneaking Oreo cookies out of the package with that not-so-quiet wrangle when my wife is not watching. She won’t see this, right???

What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair?

Beyond some of the amazing parks, vibrant restaurants throughout town and overall community, I’d say…some of the small businesses – like my “full adult” daughter’s social media marketing business, AZ Is Media. I think I got my proud dad fix now…maybe…

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? That I was a great husband and father and…an outstanding motivator to many.
