Montclair officials at the state, county and local level turned out for the first ever Montclair Pride month flag raising. The Township of Montclair, as a result of efforts initiated by Councilor At Large Peter Yacobellis held a New Progress Pride Flag raising Friday afternoon in front of the town municipal building Speakers included Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill and Montclair Mayor Sean Spiller.
Yacobellis explained that the New Progress pride flag is inclusive of the trans and non-binary community with black and brown colors to represent people of color.
“The flag has always meant safety, it’s always meant welcome, it’s always meant protection. So we fly it for pride, but we also fly it to make sure everyone feels safe and feels welcome, Yacobellis explained.
