Trailer For Sopranos Prequel ‘Many Saints of Newark,’ Filmed in Bloomfield

Back in 2019, filming for the Sopranos prequel went back to where it all ended — Holsten’s.

The trailer for the long-awaited Sopranos prequel, “The Many Saints of Newark,” starring Michael Gandolfini, son of the late actor James Gandolfini who famously played Tony Soprano, dropped Monday.

Filming for the movie took place in Newark as well as at Holsten’s Brookdale Confectionery, Bloomfield’s beloved ice cream parlor of 80 plus years, back in 2019. The Sopranos series ended at Holsten’s, cutting to black just moments after Meadow struggled to parallel park on Broad Street and Tony ate his last onion ring.

The prequel introduces us to a young Tony Soprano, played by Gandolfini, before he became the complex lead character on The Sopranos. Also in the movie cast –Vera Farmiga, who plays Tony’s mother Livia Soprano, and Ray Liotta.

“The Many Saints of Newark” will be released in theaters and HBO Max on October 1.
