Montclair State University Student Elected Trustee of International Service Club

Jonathan Varano, a student at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey, will serve as one of eight trustees on the Circle K International Board during the 2021-22 administrative year. Varano, of Bloomfield, New Jersey, was elected during the CKI Education and Leadership Conference this summer in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Varano, whose university is in the CKI New Jersey District, was elected by International Council consisting of governors and international board members who represent their districts. Circle K International, a Kiwanis International student leadership program, is the largest student-led collegiate service organization. CKI develops college and university students into a global network of responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to service.

Varano is studying law and governance and plans to attend law school. He hopes for a career in government agencies. He has been involved in the Student Government Association at Montclair State University.

He joined CKI for service opportunities and stayed for the fellowship, he said.

“Ater serving in Key Club (the Kiwanis program for high school students) I wanted to continue helping my community, so I helped start my own Circle K Club at my university,” he said.

He has served as Montclair State Circle K Charter Club vice president, as New Jersey District Metro Division lieutenant governor, as a member of the Governing Documents and Awards Committee, as club president and as chair of the New Jersey District Laws, Regulations and Awards Committee.

“I’m looking forward to building great relationships with my fellow international board members as well as strengthening connections with the districts I get to work with,” Varano said. His favorite thing about being in the service leadership organization is meeting new people from around the world who share his passion for service.

“I’m looking forward to guiding Circle K International into a post pandemic environment,” Varano said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how different districts outside my own operate and define their successes.”

In his free time, Varano enjoys travel, hiking, baking and gaming.
