Name: Amanda McCabe
Where do you live? Glen Ridge
When did you move there? December, 2008
Where did you grow up? A little town in upstate New York
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I split my work hours between freelance editing and teaching Music Together classes. I spend my free time obsessing over environmental issues on Go Glen Ridge Green and playing music in an acoustic quartet, ABCD.
Coffee, tea or … ? Coffee in the morning, black tea in the afternoon, ginger tea after dinner
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? A leisurely wake up, walk to the farmers’ market, work in the garden, visit with friends and neighbors, maybe a family pick-up softball game, take-out for dinner
What’s your favorite local restaurant? Our family favorite is Falafel Hut: Two Sha-nay-nay platters (one with rice, one with fries), a Jerusalem Platter, and a Philly Cheesesteak wrap or two (spicy for me, not spicy for my son).
What’s on your nightstand? Books! I love visiting the Little Free Libraries around town, as well as the GR Library. Right now I’m reading Anything is Possible by Elizabeth Strout.
What are you listening to? Music Together music, of course! My musical tastes are all over the place, but I gravitate toward old R&B and soul, the Beatles, and folk music. WFUV is great for discovering new music. WFMU is full of surprises.
What are your current indulgences? I’ve been baking – and eating – a lot of fruit desserts thanks to the delicious produce in my Bloomfield-Montclair CSA share.
What talent you would most like to have? I would love to be an amazing dancer.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair or your town? There is a rave-worthy local ice cream shop for every day of the week.
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? Wow, what a life!
