Montclair Celebrates Official Opening of Wellmont Arts Plaza (VIDEO)

Montclair’s mayor and council members were on hand Saturday to celebrate the official opening on the new 14,000 square-foot pedestrian plaza in the heart of Montclair’s new arts district, with a ribbon-cutting event featuring local artists, artisans, small businesses, and food vendors from the community.

Designed by Montclair-based landscape architect Arterial, the plaza features extensive landscaping, outdoor seating, and space to host open-air performances and other events, creating a vibrant gathering place throughout the year. Permanent works of art recently installed at the plaza include the sculpture “Community” which was created by artist James Moore to “embody the vision of the Wellmont Arts Plaza as a destination where great art can be experienced,” and a mural by artist Jenna Snyder Philips which utilizes “graphic lines depicting the willow branches native to northern New Jersey in bold, contrasting fiesta colors.”
