Name: Maria Sanders
Where do you live? I feel like I live in 3 towns: Bloomfield (where we technically live), Glen Ridge (our official address) and Montclair (where I truly LIVE meaning it’s where I shop, I work, my kids do activities, I dine, etc.).
When did you move there? We left the Main Line of Philly in the summer of 2013
Where did you grow up? Hoboken, NJ (tidbit: Frank Sinatra and I were baptized in the same church.)
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I’m a Licensed Social Worker and Certified Parent Coach. I have a private practice here in Montclair in the Cornerstone Montclair Building. I am also the Director of Parent Coaching for PM Pediatrics. I think my passion is my work because every day I love the work I do, I love my clients, and I love that I still get to be very present for my kiddos.
Coffee, tea or … ? Coffee in the morning and caffeinated tea in the afternoon. My good buddy turned me onto that routine.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? Getting to lay in bed until about 9:00-9:30 followed by almost anything outdoors! I’d be happy hiking, biking, playing tennis or pickle ball, walking in the city, going to the beach, really just want to be outside for as long as possible.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? YIKES! That’s such a tough one. I guess I would say Marcel for lunch and Turtle and Wolf for dinner.
What’s on your nightstand? A yummy, scented candle from Dolly Moo and my phone which plays a meditation from the Calm app
What are you listening to? I don’t really listen to a whole lot. If I get a chance, I catch up on The Daily podcast, but would like to find something more fun.
What are your current indulgences? My husband and I are recently obsessed with the cheeses from Van Hook! So we’re always exploring some new cheese and their delicious bread.
What talent you would most like to have? I think not only me, but my friends and family would like for me to know how to sing! I love singing and so I sing even though I truly have the worst voice ever! It would be great for those around me if I could actually hold a tune.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair or the area? I don’t know if it’s a real secret, but one of the things that I love is that we can go for beautiful hike right here in town and still have gorgeous views of NYC. I love the quiet hike knowing that there is the rumble of the city just a few miles away.
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? We probably should do a 5k fundraiser in memory of Maria.
