No More McDonald’s on Brookdale South GSP; Chick-fil-A and Starbucks Coming

Say goodbye to Grimace, Mayor McCheese and Ronald. The McDonald’s restaurant — along with that nostalgic drive thru and retro McDonald’s characters at Brookdale South — has closed.

When we told our college-age daughter who grew up playing in the play place and then later going to the drive thru with friends for late night eats, her reaction was “NOOOOO!”

The McDonalds had those iconic characters indoors and along the drive thru.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority tells us that Brookdale South’s Mickey D’s and the Vauxhall rest stop restaurant on the GSP have both closed with only vending and grab-and-go food options offered at both locations temporarily.

This spring, the main buildings are scheduled to be demolished. There will be no food available at either location while new facilities are being built.

When construction is complete in 2023, the Brookdale South rest stop restaurants will include Chick-fil-A, Burger King, Starbucks, and a convenience store. The Vauxhall rest stop is getting a Shake Shack, Popeyes, Dunkin’, and a convenience store.

Will you miss this McDonald’s?
