Montclair orthodontist Dr. Ed Gold ran his first marathon in 2012. He decided then that whenever he ran a marathon, he would support a cause. For years, that cause has been the Montclair Public Library. This year, on April 18th, when Gold runs the 126th Boston Marathon, he will be supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
“Over the past 35 years as an orthodontist at Montclair Orthodontics, I have had the privilege of participating in the dental care of thousands of patients and getting to know them and their families. I have felt the joy and happiness as they experienced milestones. Unfortunately, I also have witnessed the sorrow of these families as a loved one has lost their life by suicide,” Gold says.
The generosity of so many individuals has shown Gold how close mental health and suicide has come to so many people. He hopes to not only raise money for AFSP, but even more importantly, to raise awareness.
