Montclair, NJ – The Montclair Foundation (TMF) is excited to announce a community photography contest at Van Vleck House & Gardens for adult and youth amateur photographers. The Gardens are free to visit and open to the public daily from dawn to dusk so entrants will have access to a variety of floral and architectural photography subjects.
The exuberant setting of Van Vleck Gardens coming alive in the spring is a perfect setting for the contest and a natural fit with the Foundation’s mission to support the arts and foster community engagement and partnerships.
The photo contest judges are all notable photographers: Dr. Barry DiBernardo, Jay Dickman and Nick Palmieri. They will select winning photos in four categories: Amateur color, Amateur black and white, Youth color, and Youth black and white. Photo entries must be uploaded between April 9th – May 13th, 2022. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded on May 22nd at a reception at Van Vleck House by invitation. Following the awards, judge Jay Dickman will give a presentation and discuss his award-winning work. Tickets to this event can be purchased at Vanvleck.org.
Board member Ginger Steuart was integral in organizing the contest with Dr. DiBernardo and said “We are delighted to share Barry’s stellar photography with the public and to kick off the community photo contest. As our property is open to the public daily year-round, we hope that the natural beauty found within our gates can inspire amateur photographers of all ages to visit and take part in the contest.”
Talented photographer and Montclair resident Dr. Barry DiBernardo has married his love of imaging with his work as a plastic surgeon. In fact, Barry has taken his interest in imaging and scans to the next level and pioneered use of a higher resolution camera lens for skin cancer analysis. Barry’s photography will be exhibited in Van Vleck House during the contest and can be viewed on select weekend dates listed at vanvleck.org.
Barry commented “We are thrilled to announce one of the most exciting photo contests the Montclair area has seen leading up to the spectacular lecture and judging by National Geographic Pulitzer Prize recipient, Jay Dickman.”
Jay Dickman’s work has appeared in 15 of the high-profile A Day in the Life of… series. His work also has won several awards in the World Press International Competition, including the Golden Eye award, and the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Distinguished Service in Journalism, as well as multiple awards in US competitions.
