Bloomfield’s Tom Fleming Sunset Classic, Sponsored by Brookdale Shoprite, Returns!

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The 34th running of the Tom Fleming Sunset Classic returns next Thursday night, June 30th. Registration for the races and packet pickup starts at 5:00 PM at Foley Field, with the first event (kids sprints) beginning at 6:30 PM.

Since the early 1980s, the Sunset Classic has been a calendar favorite in Northern New Jersey road racing. The race is a challenging and picturesque five mile course that winds its way through Bloomfield and Glen Ridge, and supports the Bloomfield Educational Foundation, a 501c3 non profit with proceeds benefiting the V.E.S.T (Vocational Educational Special Training) Program of Bloomfield. It also features the Rick Petersen Mile Fun Run and the ever popular Kids’ Infield Sprints.

“We are so grateful for our very generous Title Sponsor, Brookdale ShopRite. Neil Greenstein and his team at Brookdale ShopRite are a valuable BEF community partner and together we have been able to effect a positive change in many students’ lives,” said Terence Mullane, BEF Chairman.

“Brookdale ShopRite is thrilled to be the Title Sponsor for this year’s Tom Fleming Sunset Classic. We’ve hired many graduates of the V.E.S.T. program over the years and Bloomfield Educational Foundation’s commitment to education and kids is so important to our community. We are honored to be part of this great event and look forward to seeing all the runners on the field,” said Neil Greenstein, a third-generation grocer and the owner and operator of Brookdale ShopRite.

In addition to donating sponsorship funds, Brookdale ShopRite will also continue to provide a complimentary refreshment tent for volunteers, runners and spectators that includes hotdogs, beverages and assorted snacks.

Additional Bloomfield companies supporting the event include the following: The Lummus Technology as a Rick Petersen Mile Sponsor and Friends of Tom Fleming Sponsors: Atlantic Track and Turnout Company, OBALS Inn and Climatec.
