Montclair, NJ – Antica Stazione is the brand new Italian restaurant at Walnut Street station’s Depot Square. Like trains passing by, restaurants have come and gone in this space, but we are betting on the staying power of this charming newcomer.
Chef Chef Giuseppe De Falco of Avellino serves up beautifully plated, classic Italian fare. We can’t think of more perfect way to unwind than getting off the train at Walnut Street and sitting down at one of the outdoor tables for a glass of wine and Antica’s Frittura di mare ($15.50, pictured above) featuring fried calamari, shrimp, zucchini and carrots.
Try the spaghetti alla chitarra con frutti di mare (piled high with shrimp, mussels, clams, calamari, scallops and fresh cherry tomatoes for $28.50) or the rigatoni amatriciana ($18.50). De Falco prefers using Jersey tomatoes (“they are so sweet and so good”) to anything canned.
Dine outside on the covered patio or indoors at an intimate table or booth, for lunch (paninis, salad and pasta), dinner and soon, late night bites. The patio was so inviting, we lingered over espresso and tiramisu for two.
Depending when you visit Antica Stazione, you may have the most affable Italian host taking care of you — Giorgio, who you might recognize from this.
