Montclair Public Library Presents ‘Collage: Abstraction’

The Montclair Public Library is proud to present “Collage: Abstraction” by photographer Bruce Rainier. This exhibit of digital images and 3d collages will be on view in the library gallery at 50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair from August 2 – 30, during Library hours.

Bruce Rainier is quoted as saying: “Sometimes inspiration comes at unexpected times and places. I first started working with digital images; I would take pictures with my cell phone during the commute into New York City and spend the time manipulating the images while on the bus. For me it was having time available to create without daily interruptions. Early during the pandemic, I decided to continue working digitally on some images that I started several years ago and found there was something lacking. As a child I was always fascinated with boxes, I usually start with a frame and the work is dictated by the size of the frames I have on hand. Some of the images suggested a 3-dimensional approach so I started cutting up the images I had and began to build collages from them. This permitted me to play with the dynamics of the digital images. As I put them together, I realized that the missing element was indeed adding some space within the confines of a frame or in some cases a flat board to build the collages on. The result is what you will see in this exhibit.”

The Library welcomes inquiries from local artists and arts organizations regarding use of the exhibit space. For further information, please contact the Montclair Public Library (973) 744-0500 ext. 2221.
