Native American Art: Crossing Boundaries

Contemporary Native American Art is thriving. Join us for a cross-cultural dialogue between artists whose works are testaments to the fact that Native American art is relevant and continues to engage the public’s heart and soul. Artists Michael Namingha and Mario Martinez with moderator Elizabeth W. Hutchinson will discuss their art practices and the blurred lines between contemporary Native American art and traditional practices. The discussion will emphasize the topic of cultural crosscurrents in relation to native and non-native themes and inspirations. Also addressed will be the subject of landscape and how choices of medium frame different relationships to land for the artist or viewer.  Q&A to follow discussion.
