Perhaps the definitive dramatic expose of the unraveling of Black America’s Promised Land. John Singleton’s award-winning film explores the sad legacy of alienation, poverty and racism in South Central LA.
Boyz N the Hood tells the coming of age story of Tre Styles who lives with his mother in Watts and subsequently sent to his father in South Central in the belief that he can lead their son to manhood. The story focuses on the troubles and emotions of an urban community through the eyes of three friends, Tre, Doughboy and Ricky.
Mr. Bogle’s new book, “HOLLYWOOD BLACK: The Stars, The Films, The Filmmakers,” just hit the shelves in a big way and includes a forward by the late John Singleton.
The book will be on sale in the Newark Museum Shop.
