BIO: Chad Smith first developed his interest in Rudy Wiedoeft while studying with Wiedoeft protege, Ted Hegvik at West Chester University in 1992. As a “direct descendent” to the Wiedoeft style, Chad is continuing the tradition of keeping Wiedoeft’s genius alive. In addition to Wiedoeft Chad has presented lectures and recitals all across the country on the unique stylings of the legendary, woodwind artist Al Gallodoro. In these specific presentations Mr. Smith is honored to perform on Alls 1958 alto saxophone, bass clarinet and clarinet. Chad’s talent with multiple woodwind instruments and ability to bridge classical and jazz idioms makes him sought after as a Broadway, recording and concert performer from New York to Los Angeles. Bassoons, flutes, clarinets and saxophones are all a part of Chad IS freelance life. He has been a member of the Broadway orchestras of Wicked, Legally Blonde, A Christmas Story and Follies and has substituted on countless shows including 42nd Street, Spamalot, A Chorus Line, The Producers and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
His movie credits include The Informant!, with music by Marvin Harnlisch, Monsters University and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Mr. Smith has been featured on television in American Dad, Smash, Legally Blonde on MTV, The Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC and the Tony Awards on CBS.
