Sister to Sister Spring Get-On-Up-and-Move-A-Thon

The Sister to Sister of Montclair Mentoring Group, Inc. presents its annual Spring Get-On-Up & Move-A-Thon on Saturday, April 30, 2016. From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the main gymnasium of Montclair High School on Midland Avenue. In addition to a dynamic menu of workouts, the event includes free blood pressure and body mass index screenings and free tote bags to the first 25 participants.
“We invite the community to enjoy an exciting afternoon of fitness that includes R&B Line Dancing, Zumba, West African Dance, Yoga and much more,” says Adele Katz, executive director. “This is a fun way to help us raise funds to work with Montclair’s young women throughout the school year.” Sister to Sister, formed in 1998, mentors girls in grades 5-12 in Montclair.
The Move-A-Thon begins with registration from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. The workout schedule is:
11:30 – 12:00 – Zumba with Irisha Brown, affectionately known as “Uptown Brown,” is one of Montclair’s most popular licensed Zumba instructors. Since 2008, Irisha has blended global music and dance beats to move the hearts, bodies and soles of the young and young at heart!
12:15 – 12:45 – R&B Line Dancing with Rosita Dotson, who has taught at the Montclair YMCA since 2013, along with varied venues and social events. R&B Line Dancing combines group synchronized- choreographed steps to form enjoyable patterns in time with the music.
1:00 – 1:30 – Life Changing Fitness with Steadman “Ted” Channer, CEO of Life Changing Fitness, creates support systems that help people find the greatness within themselves and find motivation, accountability and lasting friendships in diverse settings. He holds a Bachelor’s in exercise science, is certified through the American Council on Exercise, and holds numerous certifications in different types of fitness.
1:45 – 2:15 – West African Dance with Kamille King incorporates traditional dances with new moves and rhythms and has influenced many popular dance forms including hip hop, salsa and jazz. Kamille has studied many forms of dance and been a member of the Usaama Dance Company with Karen Love. She teaches at the Sharron Miller Academy of Performing Arts (SMAPA) and is a teaching artist and choreographer for Irvington High School, Quitman Street Community, and several elementary schools in Montclair and East Orange, New Jersey.
2:30 – 3:00 – Chair Yoga – Maggie Joralemon, a certified yoga instructor and certified chair yoga instructor.
