FREE Talk 7/18: Modern vs. Contemporary Quilts

by North Jersey Modern Quilt Guild - July 6, 2019

Contemporary and Modern Art Quilters

Presented by Linda Seward and sponsered by NJMQG, this talk features the work of over 35 textile artists who are making exciting Contemporary and Modern art quilts. Linda will define what a Modern quilt is, and illustrate how it differs from a Contemporary quilt by comparing examples of similar styles/designs. By the end of the talk you'll be able to differentiate between them quite easily. Photographs and detailed close-ups will explore the diversity of work being created today by both types of quilters.

Linda Seward has been doing needlework, sewing and handicrafts all her life. She developed her knowledge of quilting through editing dozens of books on both sides of the Atlantic and by making her own quilts. She has written twelve quilting books, including The Complete Book of Patchwork, Quilting and Appliqué, considered by many to be “the Bible” of quilt making techniques. Her most recent quilt book, entitled The Ultimate Guide to Art Quilting, was published in 2014. Linda has appeared on television and radio shows, and has judged numerous quilt shows around the world. She lectures internationally on quilt making, and works as a freelance writer, editor and quilt judge. She has had a regular column in The Quilter magazine for 16 years, and also writes for other magazines. Linda lives in London and Oxfordshire with her husband and three children.
