In four two-hour sessions, we will visit four different sites to witness the southbound migration of birds from as far away as Alaska and the Russian Far East. Vireos, warblers, and tanagers are among the species likely to be seen in September, while waterfowl and raptors usually increase in number and diversity in October. Using pre-cut bamboo sticks and strings/wires, each participant will learn and create a three-dimensional structure of a 5-pointed star. Afterwards, translucent and colorful Japanese paper, meticulously cut into required shapes and sizes, will be pasted on the framework to cover the structure. The participant will be taught to make two intricately designed long tails through paper folding and paper cutting techniques that will be attached to two adjacent  points of the star.

African Kora & Balafon Music

Salieu Suso is a master player of the kora, a soothing, 12-stringed harp instrument originally from West Africa. Born into a family tradition of Jalis (musician-historians), he is also a composer, arranger, and teacher of West African music and culture.
