Prior to the war the US Army Air Corp suffered from meager budgets, force limitations and isolationist policies. As late as July 1941 the USAAF’s chief assessed its combat bomber capability as essentially “zero strength as far as a major war is concerned." This presentation details the rapid advances in US bomber design and strength.

In four two-hour sessions, we will visit four different sites to witness the southbound migration of birds from as far away as Alaska and the Russian Far East. Vireos, warblers, and tanagers are among the species likely to be seen in September, while waterfowl and raptors usually increase in number and diversity in October. Our destinations will be set shortly before each excursion, the choice determined by recent reports of concentrations of migrant birds.
